Native “NO MOW” Bee Lawn is a seed mix made for sunny or part shade areas of your lawn. It is designed with plants that grow 0.5 to 1 foot high in most conditions. These species do tolerate mowing if you wish to do so.
We have been experimenting with this mix to get the best results. This mix now contains 1 packet of wildflower seeds, 1 pound of blue grama per 250-500 square feet.
| Acres | Wildflower mix seeds / sq ft also includes blue grama | Pounds of Blue grama | Blue grama seeds / sq ft | Price |
| 250-500 sq ft | 130-66 | 1 | 1600 | $67 |
| 1,000 sq ft | 66 | 2 | 1600 | $134 |
| 1/8 5,400 sq ft | 33 | 5 | 800 | $335 |
| 1/4 11,000 sq ft | 33 | 11 | 800 | $737 |
| 1/2 21,780 sq ft | 33 | 22 | 800 | $1,474 |
This mix does best if planted in phases.
If you begin in late fall or winter, plant the packet of wildflower seed in the winter. Then in the spring (anytime late April through May) plant the extra large package of blue-grama.
If you start in spring (late April through June) plant the blue-grama bag, then in November, score the soil lightly with a rake and spread out the wildflower seed.
Winter planting allows for wildflower seed to get the cold they need for germination. The blue grama helps to form a matrix for the wildflowers and helps crowd out weeds when they begin to grow in spring. You may want to mow this mix for the first year or two to keep weeds from going to seed while the native plants establish themselves.
